Throughout the Gospel of John, Jesus made seven unforgettable statements beginning with the words, “I Am.” Each statement reveals more and more of His identity and invites us to trust Him with every part of our lives. In "Here’s Mud in Your Eye" from our “Voices: I Am” series, we look at the healing of the man born blind to see how Jesus physically demonstrates what He spiritually declared: He is the Light of the World! Jesus sees people differently than we do, and He asks us to trust Him before we can see. Sometimes He doesn't give us all the details—He simply calls us to trust His voice. True grace opens blind eyes so we can move from being unable to see Jesus to fully worshiping Him!

SCRIPTURE:

• John 8:12; John 9:1-7, 35-38 (CSB)

8:12 Then Jesus spoke to them again: “I am the light of the world. Anyone who follows Me will never walk in darkness, but will have the light of life.”

9:1 As He passed by, He saw a man blind from birth.

2 His disciples asked Him, “Rabbi, who sinned, this man or his parents, that he was born blind?”

3 “Neither this man sinned nor his parents,” Jesus answered, “this came about so that God’s works might be displayed in him.”

6 When He had said this, He spat on the ground, made some mud from the saliva, and spread the mud on his eyes.

7 “Go,” He told him, “wash in the pool of Siloam”... So he went and washed and came back seeing.

35 Jesus heard that they had thrown him out, and when He found him, He asked, “Do you believe in the Son of Man?”

38 “I believe, Lord!” he said, and he worshiped Him.
